Please read below for descriptions, duties, and qualifications, as well as how to apply. We are looking for volunteers/interns for the following positions:

General Volunteer/Intern

Duties: Some basic office and computer work (filing, organizing, scanning materials, producing documents, etc.); other duties will be determined by individual skill level and interests.

Qualifications: Must be able to take direction and follow through on a project without micro-managing; personable and creative; internet/computer skills a plus; good writing and communication skills necessary. This is the perfect position for a college student or other individual who wants to learn about working with a grassroots, progressive non-profit organization with a focus on marginalized sexualities but has no or little prior experience. Local to the Los Angeles area preferred.

Production Assistant, Los Angeles, “Is This Normal?” webcast

Duties: Attend “Is This Normal?” live webcasts regularly (2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month, 6:30-9:30 p.m.); assist with technical and physical set up and production of the show; greet guests; assist camera and webcast technicians; assist guests and hosts; other duties as they arise.

Qualifications: Personable and out-going; must be able to take direction; must be able to lift and carry equipment (up to 15 lbs); technical/computer/production background a plus but not necessary. Must be local to the Los Angeles area and have reliable transportation. This is a great position for a college student or other individual looking for experience in live internet media and production.

Presenters, Los Angeles

Duties: Present in college and university classes on topics like BDSM, Polyamory, Transgender, and other topics.

Qualifications: Self-identification with one or more of the topics being presented. Ability to verbally communicate clearly and concisely. Ability to work well within a group. This position requires the volunteer to be in or willing to travel to the designated area. Transportation a must. A resume is not required for this position, but an in-person interview and training are.

Research Assistant/Grant Writer

Duties: Research and draft grant applications for various Center-related projects.

Qualifications: Excellent written communication skills. Self-starter; ability to handle projects without micro-managing. Previous research and grant writing experience preferred.

Promotions/Marketing

Duties: Update social media pages connected to the Center, “Is This Normal?” webcast, online campus, and other related pages, write original ad copy as well as use ad copy provided by our Communications Director, create and use images and other visual media for promotional use, provide ideas on alternate methods of promotion, other related duties.

Qualifications: Excellent written and oral communication skills. Working knowledge of the internet, social media forums, Word or similar programs, Photoshop or similar programs, photo editing, some graphic design or related experience.

Educators/Staff, SecondLife Center

Duties: Create and run discussion groups, workshops, and other interactive educational opportunities; provide current educational and Center-related information; other duties as they arise.

Qualifications: Must be internet-savvy, high ability to interact and communicate clearly and professionally in an online setting, sex education training a plus. Self-starter; ability to handle projects without micro-managing. This position is entirely online and does not require you to be in the Los Angeles area, but it does require a somewhat flexible schedule that will allow for events running in differing time zones.
