From Dr. Patti Britton —
I am pleased to announce we still have seating left for two new CE-generating, AASECT Approved trainings coming up next month in LA….and…. we are now taking deposits for the fantabulous “Ultimate SAR Experience” in Amsterdam next April.
I.S.S.R. LA TRAININGS OPEN NOW
Don’t miss these rare training opportunities LIVE in LA~Dr. Patti has formed an exciting new Institute for Sexual Self Realization (I.S.S.R.) for professionals like you. Enrollment is now open for THREE amazing trainings as follows:
#1: “CASE MANAGEMENT/SUPERVISION GROUP” MONTHLY.
(3rd Sat. AM/mo.) for 6 months (monthly 3 hours each, 9 am to 12 noon). Begins November 19th through April 2012. West LA location. Approved for 18 AASECT CEs.
This is not a drop-in group; all participants must agree to attend all 6 sessions (with the exception of health or other type of crisis). There is no make-up for any missed sessions. AASECT CEs and a Certificate of Completion will be issued at the completion of all 6 sessions. Fee: $150 per session or $800 for full 6 sessions ($100 DISCOUNT OFF included). Ala carte payments accepted of $150 per session.
In each session, various models for clinical sexological assessment and treatment will be discussed on a case by case basis, such as the use of sensate focus, PLISSIT, MEBES, traditional sex therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral, REBT, Gestalt, NLP, psychodynamic and non-traditional approaches for designing and managing effective treatment plans for clients according to their specific case needs. After initial training in the variety of assessment tools and treatment modalities, Dr. Britton will begin by presenting cases from Dr. Britton’s own practice as a springboard for learning and discussion. Participants in the group are expected to bring in their own cases to deconstruct, debrief, analyze and resolve with dynamic treatment plans in effect. Instruction will include lecture, group discussion, use of media, specific case presentations on DVD, role-plays and guided imagery work as needed.

There are the 46 clinical sexological concerns, which are discussed in Dr. Britton’s landmark book, The Art of Sex Coaching, that form the foundation for all case management work at I.S.S.R.
#2: “SEX IN CINEMA~using characters as potential clients.”
This 6-month training focuses on how to use film as the medium for understanding human sexual dynamics. Approved for 18 AASECT CEs.
In this course you will watch a series of Hollywood or foreign films that have sexuality as their main theme, such as “Transamerica” on transgendered, or “Brokeback Mountain” on gay/homosexual love, or “Little Children” on affairs/sterile marriage, or “Notes on a Scandal” on Lesbian attraction, or “Secretary” on BDSM relating, “Calendar Girls” on female sexuality and aging, and a range of other spectacular films that tell a story and show us characters as persons with sexual issues or a world filled with sexuality as its theme.
We address the characters as clients: taking their inventory based on what they do or say, finding key assessment indicators, understanding their sexual style, patterns, blockages or their sexual evolution, then crafting effective treatment strategies for them as though they were our own clients. This is a rich experience in spending time with a client on screen, then digging deeply into their unique sexual journey and developing a way to assist them toward sexual self realization. For clinicians and educators, “Sex in Cinema” is a revolutionary means for finding pathways toward sexual resolution and healing. It uses key assessment and treatment methodologies, such as PLISSIT, MEBES and others.
“Sex in Cinema” meets MONTHLY.
Sat./mo./2 pm-5pm. Begins November 19th
through April 2012; West LA location. Fee:
$150 per session or $800 for full 6 sessions ($100 DISCOUNT OFF included). Ala carte payments accepted of $150 per session. For those who wish to also enroll in the AM course offered in Case Management
, there is a 20% discount.
After initial training in the variety of assessment tools and treatment modalities, the group observes the story of each character as a potential client, noting aspects that can be addressed as indicators for assessment, then eliciting the process of finding strategies and possible pathways for designing treatment for that client. Participants will be expected to maintain a reflection journal, based on each film and characters, watch films on their own, and be present for group discussion. At the conclusion, participants will (a) be able to present a “case” to the group, based on their favorite character; and (b) be able to experience greater awareness, knowledge, confidence and skills in determining the most powerful course of treatment for a variety of sexual concerns.
