Still trying to decide about coming the Leather Leadership Conference in Los Angeles? Think about this…it won’t be the same without you.

If you take a look at the list of presentations and presenters you will recognize the names of some of the wonderful folks who have been preparing to make presentations at the conference. They have selected topics designed to help the “leaders: in our community do what they do even better. But anyone who has ever made a presentation knows that the real magic is who is in the room when the presentation is being made. It is a process of give and take. The questions that are asked, the comments that are made, and the conversations that follow are what really make a conference come alive.  Sometimes the organized presentations, key note speeches, or poster sessions are just the beginning of a thought process or conversation that is at the root of change in our community.

Every leader faces challenges. Whether it is trying to solve a difficult problem or issue that feels unique to your experience, or trying to maintain enthusiasm after long hours of dedicated work, Leather Leadership Conference is the place to get what you need, and provide what others need as well.  Come on a be a part of it.

Recent events in the Los Angeles Area have involved the leather community. When the West Hollywood City Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission (ACAC) voted NOT to support the Tom of Finland Erotic Art Festival traditionally held in March and a part of the Los Angeles Leather Weekend it was an opportunity for real leadership. The ACAC’s vote was quickly repudiated by the City Council who expressed their consternation and confusion about the vote and their intention to continue to support the festival as they have for more than a decade.

The Los Angeles leather community responded by filling the City Council meeting and expressing their thoughts about the commission’s vote.  The City Council listened attentively as speakers from the leather community expressed their thoughts and suggestions about how to resolve this “misunderstanding”.

Art from the Tom of Finland Foundation and other collections will be available for viewing during the Leather Leadership Conference in Los Angeles. Many of the iconic images associated with our leather esthetic are housed in the foundation’s collections and the collections of members of the local leather community. Come see what the “drama” was all about.
